mac pro mid 2012 not processing firmware upgrad...

Downloaded the software, workstation says if need to shut down for a firmware upgrade and to restart after shutdown.  I restart and there is a grey screen, and a larger progress bar than normal, however, there is no progress and within about 10 seconds it restarts and is back to the logon screen.  After logging on i get a repeat of the need for the workstation to shut down for the High Sierra firmware upgrade; never completes.  Any suggestions or is there a way to manually install the firmware upgrade?
