Adding and Deleting BBC podcasts to ipod nano

I am having difficulty finding a consistent way to add and delete bbc podcasts in my ipod nano.  I have read various ways to do this and can manually add podcasts quite easily but find it impossible to delete podcasts which have not run to the end - whatever I do they are still on the ipod.

I get very confused with the three sections you have to use.  There's the 'Summary' section, the 'Library' section and the 'Own ipod section.

I would like to start again and abandon all the settings which are not working.  Could anyone list the settings which work well  for them in all three areas - starting from the Summary page.  I have no difficulty with the bbc subscribing part.

I run Windows 7 and my ipod nano is the square ?3rd generation.
