App Store not behaving on iPad

Having behaved ok for 24hrs the App Store is suddenly, without any action from me, going to a blank screen and showing “loading” and the rotating bars symbol.  All the icons at the bottom of the screen disappear.

 

Dismissing the app and then re-starting it temporarily fixes this, but it then returns to the “loading” state.

 

Anyone else having this problem?
