Time Machine is stuck

I've been trying to do a Time Machine back-up.

I'll admit, I've been bad, and this is the first time I'm doing one.

I understand the first time it takes a long time.  However, after several hours, it seemed to have frozen with only 2.41GB to go.

I stopped the back up and restarted it.

It said "Backing Up: 6kb of 2.41 GB" and "Calculating time remaining..."

I left it at that and went to work... When I came home, 9 hours later... it still said the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

See if any of the issues in the Yellow Box on this link pertain to your situation:

I don't think any of those apply...

Btw, just to mention cause I forgot to include it, original OS was Mountain Lion, but it's been upgraded to Sierra...

Also, the external drive enclosure I have does have a drive light.  For this particular 2.41 GB left.  The light stops flashing and it looks like it sits idle.

Are you running any anti-virus or so-called "cleaning" apps?

Have you run Disk Utility > First Aid on your Time Machine volume?

If First Aid doesn't help, I'd try erasing your Time Machine volume and starting over.

Huh.  I am running Kaspersky Total Internet Security.

I'll try disabling it.

Already did the first aid on the drive.

That may be the problem. Know that anti-virus are not needed or necessary on Mac OS. They tend to interfere with Macs own built-in security. At best they use unnecessary resources and at worst they can bork your whole system.
