Not all songs in iTunes folder appear in iTunes...
Hey guys,My iTunes music folder on my hard drive has about 17GB of music. In the iTunes Folder itself, there are folders for each artist etc.
When I open up my iTunes program, the Music Library tab only display 6.5GB of Music.
Can someone please tell me what is going on? It's probably me being stupid so if you could even kindly point me in the right direction to rectify the problem.
Many thanks,
Steve.
By the way, when I go into the iTunes Music folder in Finder, and start clicking on songs that arent showing up in iTunes, the file disappears from the folder and appears in iTunes.
What is going on?! lol
Anyone? ?
iTunes does not have a "Watch Folder" capability. As a result you can have song files, or GB of song files, sitting in your folder but not being part of the iTunes library. Add them using File > Add Folder to Library.
When I have the iTunes Music folder highlighted and go to file, there is no 'Add To Library' option.
However, there is a subfolder called 'Automatically Add To iTunes'. When I move album folders within 'iTunes Music' to this folder, they automatically disappear from this location and appear within iTunes.
So I guess I should just save everything to 'Automatically Add To iTunes' ??? Well I just dragged the contents of my iTunes Music folder into this subfolder and they have all disappeared and appeared within iTunes. Which is what I wanted. I want to make sure I do not have duplicates on my hard drive. want one copy in one location on iTunes.
Most of the album folders have a jpg for album covers that never seems to work in iTunes either

Click on File and then on Add Folder to Library. It will bring up a dialog that lets you point to the folder you wich to add.
Ok guys this is really frustrating me.
Whatever I have done, I have ended up with duplicates for everything, sometimes up to 4 dupes for each track. (Over 2000 of them).
Now I have spent the time of checking the dupes and moving them to trash.
However, when I move all dupes to trash, and click on the remaining track in iTunes, it states its location as being the Trash folder.
Can someone PLEASE explain ?!
I am having the same issue. For the longest time, all 5.17GB of my music has been finein iTunes. The wife just got an iPad, and re-did her iTunes on her PC. We are operating a shared library on my PC.
Since updating, my Shuffle was unable to update. Today, I also updated my iTunes (removing the pervious version first) to iTunes9.
installed without an issue, and had my previous preferences listed, such as the shared folder library location (G:MyDocuments\My Music\)
I have re-added the folder to the library twice to get it to re-scan, and it is only showing 3.65GB - 126 albums of music... WAY off.
The original files do seem to be there still. The only basic setting I changed was to allow iTunes to organize my music (yikes). I haven't tried re-syncing her iPad or my shuffle or the old nano floating around... last thing I want to do is make things worse.
I'm stuck in the same boat as skeletal_wreck. I need some ideas to help get all my music to show in the library please.
iTunes is just crummy software. It lacks features and ease of use that have been common on freebies like Winamp for years, like automatically updating the library from watch folders, ease of deleting dead files, duplicates, etc.
It's also very inconsistent in normal operations, such as syncing. Sometimes, it just locks up and it has to be closed and reopened to work properly.
I only use it because there's no other way to add files to my iPhone, like DRAG & DROP, which is decades-old in the rest of the world.
Apple wants to control every aspect of the "user experience", but they don't want to spend the time or resources to make their chosen methods function correctly.
