iTunes 12 plays podcasts in the wrong order

iTunes 11 & 12: no matter what setting you use in the Podcast settings, they are played back newest to oldest.  While this issues has been addressed (and not resolved) for iOS, and iPods, I can't find anything about how to fix it on a Mac (10.7.5).

Please do not say "update".  I can't.

I would have thought that the problem that first appeared in iTunes 11 would be fixed in later version, but it has not.

I have tried both settings, and it always plays newest to oldest.

While a playlist or smart playlist is a work around, it should not be necessary.  If the option exists in the settings, IT SHOULD WORK.

Same issue here. No matter what I try (toggling the selection back and forth, restarting) it still plays in the wrong order. Very frustrating.

Just updated iTunes.  Still not working.

How hard can this be?
