FaceTime Echoing Issues

I have an iPhone and MacBook. My GF has a MacBook Air. Whenever I FaceTime with her on either device I get an echo. It goes away when she puts headphones on which leads me to believe that the microphone on her MacBook Air is picking up my voice and relaying it back to me. Occasionally the echo will stop for an short while (1-2 minutes) and then return. Does anyone know why this is happening or what I can do to fix it?

On her MacBook Air, in System Preferencs --> Sound --> Input, make sure the "Use ambient noise reduction" box is checked.

That was my first thought, however she looked and the box is checked. Thanks for the reply! (-:

I have been experiecing the same problem as of late.  The only echo is my voice and only on my end.  My friend hears no echo from my voice at all through his Mac Mini.  It echos with iPhone4 as well as Macbook Pro.  It also echoes when I used headset on MacBook Pro.  I did not try the headset on the iPhone4 though but my guess is that it would do the same.  It didn't use to do this before mountain lion from what I can recall.

I have this same problem too... Using the Apple headphones on one or both ends does not work.

Same problem.  I have a new MBA 13 Mid 2012.  Since buying it the other party in a FT call hears an echo.

This happens at even low volume levels.  That is to say, even at volumes where I cannot adequately hear the other party they still get an echo of THEIR speech.

I have had to resort to headphones exclusively.

And reading this thread I verified that the "Use ambient noise reduction" box is checked under System Preferences.

I look forward to a possible solutions.

In addition to ensuring the "Use ambient noise reduction" box is checked you might want to mess around with the "input volume" on both the mac you are using and the mac of the person that you are FaceTiming with. I've messed around with this and I've had some sucess. Also ensure that it is not the room you are in that is causing the echo. My GF often FaceTimes me from her room which echos a lot. I'm not sure why this seems to be related to MBAs?

We can't seem to solve the Facetime echo problem.  All my friends seem to be having the same issue.  Some are using iPhones and others are using computers.  I have a Logitech C920 Webcam and a soundmatters speaker.  I am running Sierra on a Mac Mini.  We have fooled around with the input in the Sound preferences to no avail.  We do not have a place in input  to check ambient noise reduction.  The only time Facetime seems to work without an echo is when a cousin is running a Windows machine.  I have talked to Apple, and a senior advisor says there is a bug.  Since you are a Level 9 individual do you have any answer.  Skype works perfectly with this setup.
