Problems importing recovered mbox files to Mac ...

When modifying my Mac Mail accout tsettings, I accidently toggled the "delete emails older than one month."  Oops, I deleted 1,000s of emails from inbox that I need back.

After much research, it appears these files are gone. (if anyone has some ideas here, that would be great too!)

I tried using recovery software, and have found 82 mbox files with 18 GB of data.  Perhaps these are my missing emails?

Unfortunately, they won't import into Mac Mail as all the instructions say they should.  A couple of the smaller files do, but most of the files are 218.1 MB and they don't import.

Any suggestions?
