Help with iPad Pro virtual keyboard disappearing

For some reason, the virtual keyboard on my iPad pro just  disappears and cannot be found. This happens intermittently and is very frustrating. Anybody else have this experience?

Have you ever connected any bluetooth keyboard to the iPad Pro?   If so, it's probably auto-connecting when you come within 30 feet or so of that keyboard.  Go to BlueTooth when you have this problem and see if there's a keyboard device that is connected when you do not have the keyboard.   If so, disconnect it from settings.

No I have never added a bluetooth keyboard, but, I have added a bluetooth footpad that controls my iPad when I reading music.  My guess is this is the problem,  It only seems to happen if the bluetooth footpad is enabled.

iPad Pro 10.5 with ios 11 2017 — I have a disappearing virtual keyboard too. Bluetooth is shut off. I can get Gboard or the Apple keyboard back by resetting the tablet. And yes it is very frustrating. I’d be delighted if I was doing “wrong” so I could stop doing it.
