can I create a desktop icon for a server I conn...

I have a Nas data server.  At startup the computer connects to it automatically.

It appears on the sidebar of Finder under shared, but I would like to have an icon appear for it on my desktop.  I would like to open it with a double mouse click as I do an external drive that's connected, and not have to walk through opening a finder window.

Is this possible?  What would be the steps to do it?

I have had luck with creating an alias to the volume (select the volume icon on the desktop - not the sidebar, control-click, "Make Alias", or command-L, or from the FInder File menu) and placing the alias on the desktop.
