iTunes 10.7.0.166 has slowed down my computer

Since the upgrade to 10.7.0.166 my computer (iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)) has noticeably slowed down when running the application. For example moving widows around is very slow now. Looking in Activity Monitor I see that iTunes is using CPU (high in thread usage), very high (+- 440 Mb.) in real memory size and in energy (average energy impact). I did not experience these performance issues with previous versions of iTunes.
