It looks like my watch has tried to update, but...

Hi - my Apple Watch is paired to an iPhone that I no longer have access to (it is a work phone and I am out on maternity leave).  It appears my watch has started the update to watchOS4 but I can only get so far in the process before it needs my phone.  Does this mean my watch is now no longer useable?

The correct process for updating watchOS is detailed here and requires the Apple Watch to be connected to the paired iPhone throughout the process:

If you no longer have an iPhone, then you can no longer update or sync data from your Apple Watch.
