problems opening time machine

I was configuring time machine to use my external hardrive and was able to complete the operation successfully, unfortunately i lost power durring the backup and somehow did something from preventing me from opening time machine exept through preferences.....help

So you can open it in System Preferences / Time Machine?

There is a box at the bottom there for Show Time Machine in menu bar. Have you got that checked?
