Wifi latency problem (?) with 27" iMac running ...

First time poster, a bit naive on all this so please bear with me.

Purchased new iMac and new router (Netgear DGND3700v2) in Jan 2014. The last several weeks I have been having big problems with internet connections. Painfully slow to load, intermittent, and unable to connect at times. Speed tests on other home devices (iPhone, iPad show acceptable DL speed of 6-7 mbs while regularly iMac shows less than 1 mps and often the test fails.

Have spent hours on calls with Apple and my ISP without success. Reboots, resets, reloads, restarts, changed cabling etc - no change.

Could this be a wifi card problem in the iMac?

Don't know where to turn - hope there is help in this Community. Thanks
