Is thunderbolt port is USB

Sorry to ask this question I am really have no knowledge about this and I am getting confused when searching on google because it's specific Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3. I have more question to ask than just "Is Thunderbolt the same as USB C?"

Ok first thing I do not know if my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) Using Thunderbolt 2 or 3

And another question is... I know that 29w adaptor USB-C can charge iPad Pro super fast BUT if I am choosing to use only USB-C to connect to thunderbolt and charging my iPad pro directly will I have a same charging speed like adaptor?
