Do Hard Cases Damage a Macbook?

I just bought a 15" 2017 Macbook Pro and want to protect it. I've heard a few people say that hard shell cases can add stress to and eventually damage the hinge, and cause the computer to experience heating issues. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not, and if so,what is a good alternative to a hard shell case? Thanks!

I own a late 2008 MacBook Pro 15-inch and have kept it in a leather hardshell (MacAlly BookShell 2 Pro) for almost 10 years now! I recently took it off and switched to a thinner plastic one by spec for aesthetic reasons… I have had no issues with overheating or the hinge becoming loose so have at it! I highly recommend the spec!

I don't have direct experience with this model, but this is a topic old like the aluminium dear old PowerBook.

If you treat your computer with care, you don't have to expect any bad from the cases: sure the normal usage can produce some scratch in particular on the bottom but nothing important. I personally never used any "cover" to protect my MacBooks (Pro, "normal" and Air) and I never had issues.

You can also find them for cheap on eBay!

By the way, I also have  The same Spec shell  for my MacBook Air 11-inch.
