How to I get rid of jabber on my iMessage Account?

Get rid of jabber in iMessage

Hello Chatcat49,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

I understand you wish to delete the Jabber account in your Messages app on your MacBook Air.
Since this is the default account, you would need to add another third-party messaging service and be signed into it before you could disable the Jabber account.  Rather than delete the account, the easiest thing to do would be to remove the checkmark from "Enable this account."

Use Messages with your Mac

Set up iMessage

iMessage is the Apple messaging service you get automatically with your Apple ID. If it's not already set up, you're asked to sign in when you first open the Messages app. Sign in with same Apple ID that you use with Messages on your iPhone and other devices. It's usually the same Apple ID that you use for iCloud, the iTunes Store, the App Store, and the account you created when you first set up your Mac.

To add a third-party messaging service, choose Add Account from the Message menu. Then choose an account provider and follow the onscreen instructions from that provider.

To disable a messaging service or change its settings, choose Preferences from the Messages menu, then click Accounts.

Take care.

I just notice Jabber on my iMessage account, with no idea how it got there. Trying to follow your directions ... but cannot find a checkmark labeled "enable this account." And cannot find a Jabber account in Preferences --> Accounts. Maybe a screen shot?

Can I please add to this - what is "jabber"?

I see it too.  And it says here that you have to withdraw from iMessage, but what exactly is Jabber?

messages > Preferences > Accounts then uncheck the third party app that supports jabber, for me it was Google Talk

Jabber allows you to chat with other third party apps like google talk. So, if you friend is on google talk they can message you at imessage.
