Using Template With External Drive

I created a tracking template with Logic X (10.3.2). The template was saved to the internal drive on my Mac mini -Mac mini Server (Mid 2011).

When I track, I record to an external drive. I'm having trouble using the template and trying to save the project to my external drive. How do I achieve this? Do I have to save the template to my external drive (and then to each external drive I'll use after)? Or is there a way to create a template on the mini and be able to call it up every time I use an external drive?
