Pencil needs repeated pairing with iPad Pro 2

Both Pencil and iPad Pro less than 1 month old with iOS 11.0.1 installed. Pencil stops working - re-pairing makes it work again. Both Pencil and iPad kept in close proximity when not in use and both fully charged. Why the need for re-pairing?
