memory stopped working

Hi anybody can you help, I have a late 2008 mac pro with 10.8.5 installed had no problems with it until the last couple of months. When I got the machine I had two 1GB memory cards in, one in the the top panel and one in the bottom. I purchased two extra 2GB cards and placed one in the top panel and one in the bottom, been working fine until a couple of months ago when the two 2GB card stopped showing up on the memory section on About this mac. Took out the cards gave the machine a good clean, replaced the two 2GB cards and everything work again. Now two months later it has happened again, even if I take the two 1GB cards out and replace them with the 2GB card it still shows up as attached screenshot can some one help. Thanks ken
