iCloud keeps asking for a password

I have been using iCloud for several months. This morning, I logged on to my iMac to find that my me.com e-mail account was down and that iCal was telling me that my password had not been recognised, so I could not synchronise my calendars with the cloud "for security reasons".

Nothing had changed here, but I shrugged and duly followed the on-screen instructions and reset the password successfully. Five minutes later, I got the same message: account disabled for security reasons. Username or password did not match.

I have now been through this endless loop four times. Either something is wrong at Apple or, more likely, I am misunderstanding something basic. Can someone advise?

OK, at this point (and assuming you haven't yet) I would try removing the iCloud account from Mail and putting it back again but I would do so manually rather than let the auto setup do it (well, actually I would let the auto have a go first), you seem to have verified the standard requirements so I am not sure what else to suggest. It's an iMap account so you will not lose anything in the iCloud account.

Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears

If you are using Safari to login to icloud.com try emptying the Safari cache. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

After resetting your password did you enter the new password into Mail. Have you tried logging out of iCloud and logging back in again.

Thank you, Carolyn, but that doesn't appear to have done it. I can log into iCloud via Safari no problem using the newly reset (for the fourth time) password, but iCal and the me.com mail address just won't play ball with it.

I've tried both of those, Winston, but no luck. For instance, I can enter the new password as many times as I like into the me.com account's pop-up password box in Mail, and add it to the Keychain, but five seconds later, it's back asking for the same thing again. This is despite the same password getting me into iCloud via Safari.

I have to admit my mail account will pop up occasionally and ask for a password, I just click cancel and it goes away until the next time which really isn't very often (maybe once or twice a month)

This is driving me NUTS.

I can get into iCloud via Safari using my Apple ID and the latest password. I can get into the iTunes Store using my Apple ID and the latest password.

But iCal and Mail are still off limits. All I get from Mail is the Enter Password pop-up (and it never accepts the password and so refuses me access to mail). All I get from iCal is a message telling me the account has been disabled for security reasons and that I should reset the password.

Am I missing some kind of hidden place for entering the password? Is anyone else going slowly crazy with this problem?

Just to be picky, does your password meet iCloud requirements (bear with me here) 8 character minimum, at least 1 number, at least 1 capital letter, no special characters?

You're not being picky at all. I'm grateful for any input. But, yes, the password meets all the requirements. From what I've seen, if it hadn't, the reset process would have stopped me and told me to try again.

I have a feeling there's a blank password box waiting to filled in the depths of something somewhere and I don't know where it is.

Well, I have no idea what happened there, but Csound1's suggestion seems to have fixed it. Thank you so much. I am now going to lie down in a darkened room.

I know just how you feel

Thanks

same problem here, from today! it seems it doesn't accept the server..

Interesting, so I'm not the only one.  Every morning when I pick up my phone in asked for my iCloud password. (I assume the phone tried to sync via wi-fi while I was asleep. It's great, I like for it to sync when I don't need it BUT *** do I have to provide the same password every time?  The password is correct, it accepts it then the next morning - same question....  Is Apple becoming the "new" Microsoft??  I remember all the weird Windows prompts, now this crap.  There's more but this is all I care enough to write about...

Dealing with the same issues...it accepts my password and a couple of minutes later that dang box appears again.  I will try some of the above solutions and see if they help.  Grrrrrrr!  Thanks everyone.

Mary Lou
