Why do I need a credit card to update free appa

Why do I need to have a credit card to update my free apps nothing that I have on this phone uses money so why do I need a card to update everything?

You shouldn’t be asked to enter your credit card information for those things. Try to find a workaround or  maybe scroll down and choose not now or something lile that. There should be.

Because Apple uses the credit card information to verify your location.

 

However, you should be able to change the billing information to "None".
