Screen Brightness on Windows 8
I wanted to check out Windows 8 so i decided to install it using Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. I installed it successfuly, along with the Windows Bootcamp drivers, but my Display is VERY dim, the brightness is all the way up to the Mac. I rebooted the Macbook Pro and ran OSX and the brightness is fine, but on windows is very very dim and idk how to fix it. Can anyone help me out here?
There is your problem. It's solved.

Update:
It didn't work, i did what that tutorial said to do and it didn't work. I also don't have a Windows key on my keyboard cus im on a mac in the tutorial it said to do Win+I to pull up brightness options and the incorrect interface comes up. I tried to searc my issue on google somemore and i still cant find a solution. Can anyone help me out here? I'm trying to fix my dim screen issue on Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro
You have to wait for a new version of BootCamp or alternatively download a utility called Mac Brightness Control , however, it's free for only 15 days. You have to adjust everything you need in the 15 days.
If you haven't found out , here's something I know. Well, I haven't exactly used windows 8 much, but I used to use windows 7 all the time. I'm not sure if windows 8 has a start button, but if you see like the little windows sign on a button on the bottom left, click on it and search brightness. You should click on something that says adjust brightness, I'm not sure what you'll find on windows 8. Then just adjust your brightness. :L
This worked for me! For anyone else press the command key(Acts as windows key) and type brightness to search brightness at first you may not see any results but fon't worry, on the right choose settings. Then choose from the left "Adjust My Screen Brightness Automatically" then under the sub-heading Screen click on the green bar to turn it off, and the screen brightens right up!
I understand what Mac_HD problem is, it seems to be a driver issue and not a simple Windows configuration. I will check for any solution and reply back since I have the same problem with Windows 8. This problem does not happens with Windows 7.
Thank you!!!! PapillonStudos, this worked on my 2011 21.5-inch iMac.
Windows 8 settings seem to be all over the place.
I guess I will get used to it with practice
I had the same problem and it took me a while to find a solution to reduce Windows 8 brightness on my MacBook on Bootcamp:
1. Right-click on the Desktop and select "Screen Resolution"
2. Select "Advanced settings"
3. Select "Color Management" tab then click "Color Management" button
4. Select "Advanced" tab
5. Select "Calibrate display"
6. The first step is to reduce gamma which helps reduce the brightness
Hope this helps.
It's easier.
1. Go to the battery on the bottom right next to your clock and click power option or Go to Control Panel and Power Options.
2. In the plan selected click on " Change plan settings" and then " Change Advance Power Settings"
3. Under Display drop menu, turn off the " Enable adaptive brightness".
That's all. Enjoy.
Ok I have a macbook pro Early 2011 ( i7 2635qm - 16gb ddr3 - WD Black Series 750Gb Drive - Ati 6490m Graphics ). I installed the latest bootcamp drivers and also had a major brightness issue. It was saying that the brightness was all the way up even though it was at about 50%. I went into the advanced option and disabled adaptive brigtness under all profiles... still a no go. I did correct my issue finally by going into the device manager and uninstalling the ambient light sensor altogether. I can control the brightness with the function keys and all is well.
Hope this helps someone!!!!!
Update.... The driver reinstalls on every reboot. I permanently corrected it by renaming C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\UMDF\SensorsAlsDriver.dll ( this is the light sensor driver ) to SensorsAlsDriver.dll.bak ( just in case you need it for something in the future ). Unfortunately device manager doesnt allow you to just "disable" or uninstall the driver along with the device. Do that and then uninstall it in device manager..... brightness will stay working and allow up to 100% properly
Thank you so much for this post!!! I was going crazy with Win 8!! I now have full brightness again on my
2012 Macbook Retina Display 15"
Thanks your a life saver!:)
Hi La30retrop. Which method did you use? Changing the power properties or deleting / renaming the file? Might help someone else who has your exact model :-)

That worked imediatly, working in a dark room on a triple monitor set up, it wanted to go REALLY low in brightness and compleltely uneven with the screen next to it.
