problem with javascript on safari

hello,

if I enable javascript in safari, I see blank screen for these websites

https://www.cnn.com

https://www.hsbc.co.in

if I disable javascript, I don't see the usual images etc.. Also, under plugins in preferences, I see adobe flash player is turned off by default for every website. How do I fix this? I installed adblock from App Store -and it seems to show that websites have ads and some other stuff to track users.

The details of safari are:-

Version 10.1.1 (12603.2.4)

This is on mac os sierra v 10.12.15

I would like to reset everything on my browser settings without losing my passwords, so that it works like it does for everybody else without compromising security.
