Itunes 12.7 airplay multiple speaker selection ...

Running OS X 10.11 on iMac with iTunes 12.7.  I had the multiple airplay feature working, streaming music simultaneously to both my apple TV and a blue tooth receiver/speaker.  Something changed because now the airplay control acts as a single control. I can still see both devices, and play to either one, but whichever one I select, it deactivates the other one. So I am back to streaming to a single device like the older iTunes versions.  Probably unrelated, but I also have no check for updates item in the iTunes menu dropdown, which every reference I can find about updating iTunes says should be there.
