Text and iMessage not syncing between iPhone an...

IPhone 5 and iPad Mini both on iOS 10.2. IMessege is turned on on both devices with send and receive 2 addresses, the phone number and the email address which is the iTunes account address.

Hand off is turned on and working between devices.

Text message forwarding is turned on. I changed the name of the iPad and the name change was reflected on the phone.

problem:

iMessages sent on the iPad don't show up on the iPhone and. Ice versa. Replies show on both devices but the sent message only shows on the device it is sent from.

SMS messages received only show on the iPhone not the iPad.

l have signed out of the accounts on both devices and signed back in and tried most things. It works fine n my devices but not on my wife's.

any idea on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi. Have you checked all the steps in this link: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support?

Yes, still no joy.

Yes this is not the fix. Only can use iMessages on my iPhone 6+ and Apple Watch. No longer works on my iMac, Mac mini, iPad mini, or brand new iPad Pro " 5 days old" Apple obviously doesn't care about this issue because it has been occurring for years and has yet to be corrected.

What do you mean "they don't care about those issue"? Everything works and is in perfect sync with all my apple devices, and I have everything. My family too. So it's not an issue that everyone is having, we just need to figure out what the problem is and solve it.

This drove me nuts for months - it just suddenly stopped working.

There are loads of settings that have to be just right: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support lists them all. Once Handover and blue tooth are set on all devices the next section on the page I linked that worked for me was Setup iPhone Cellular calls. I discovered that my phone Facetime app was not signed into my Apple ID. It never occurred to me that messages would use Facetime for the handover. Once I had sorted Facetime it all worked again. I know I'm not the first person to post that link - but it does work - there are just loads of things to check. I am also connecting an iPhone 5S and an ancient iMac so its not about the latest kit.
