How do I delete multiple duplicate songs?

After selecting "Show exact duplicate items", I'm left with an unsorted list of songs.  How can I sort them or list them in a playlist to delete all at once?

No easy way.  You can try sorting by date added or some other feature to see if you can get them to group.  Make sure they are really duplicates.  It may happen on occasion a single file gets entered into iTunes twice and deleting one gets rid of both (because there really is only one file ponted to twice).  In the normal course of things you should only rarely see duplicates in iTunes.

Limnos,

Thank you so much.  These are mostly files that can't be located because I deleted them.  It turns out that I see all of the duplicates grouped by a particular date.

Display"all songs" in your iTunes library

This should show all sings in a list view

Right Click on the header bar for the list

You should get a list of the columns that you can show - ones already selected will have a tick next to them

Make sure that there is a tick next to 'iCloud Status' - if not click it and a tick should appear

Make sure that there is a tick next to 'iCloud Download' - if not click it and a tick should appear

The 'icloud status' column will now show in your list and show "Duplicate" for items that are duplicated

The 'icloud Download' column will also show [It has a cloud symbol]

Click "Show Duplicates" in your menu  [Hold down option key as you click if you want only EXACT duplicates

Position your pointer at the head of the "iCloud Download' column and click on it

Your list will now be sorted according to the "iCloud Download" column - it will show all duplicates as a group

The "iCloud Download" colum will have a "double cloud" symbol showing for duplicates

The "iCloud Status" column will show "DUPLICATE' for duplicates and can be trusted

If you now click on the "double-cloud" symbol - you will get a dialogues asking you if you wish to delete the item

If you select "Delete" - a second dialogue will give you the choice of "keeping the file" or "moving to trash" - Either choice will remove if from your library
