MacBook Pro bluetooth issues when paired with B...

Hello,

I have the latest MacBook Pro with TouchBar, with all of the latest updates to macOS Sierra, etc.

I have a Logitech MX Master mouse that I paired to the MBP via bluetooth.

I have Bose QC35 headphones that I paired to the MBP via bluetooth.

If I am using just the mouse (with the headphones powered off), the mouse works fine. There is no noticeable lag, everything responds well. I don't have any issues with the mouse.

If I am using just the headphones (with the mouse powered off), the headphones work fine. Music plays perfect, no lag or stutters. I don't have any issues with the headphone.

However, if I want to listen to music on the MBP and still work with the mouse (so both the headphones and the mouse are powered on and connected via bluetooth), there is a noticeable lag in both the headphones and the mouse.

Music playing in the headphones is often choppy. It cuts in/out, and sometimes repeats a few seconds worth of the song. Makes it horrible to listen to.

Same goes for the mouse. It becomes laggy and unresponsive. Clicking will take sometimes over 10 seconds to work. Moving the cursor takes many seconds to refresh, so I end up jumping all over the screen. It. is basically unusable and I am forced to either use the trackpad or keyboard shortcuts.

If I power off either one of the devices, the other starts working perfectly. It is almost like the MBP cannot run both devices via bluetooth at the same time.

I am assuming this is not expected, and there should be ample processing power to run both seamlessly. Any one have any suggestions?

The problem you are having is that the mac Bluetooth can't use both at the same time and is meant to only have one device connected at a time, try going and getting a wireless keyboard with a USB bluetooth piece to connect it to your computer. But overall your mac can't connect to two bluetooth devices at the same time.

Humm, is that a MacBook only thing?

I ask because I just tested it by pairing the headphones to my wife's iMac. It has the Apple Magic Mouse and Apple Keyboard, both of which are also bluetooth. Making it 3 bluetooth devices and it didn't experience the same issue.

I also have the Touch Bar MBP, Bose QC35's, and an MX Master. It only seems to work for me when I do not use my external USB-C display. Are you using any other USB-C devices along with the QC35's and the MX Master? According to Apple Support some USB-C devices will mess with the Bluetooth radio. Unfortunately this isn't really a solution but I hope you found it useful.

This seemed promising at first, but after disconnecting all wires from my MacBook Pro with TouchBar (including power), I still experienced my issue (slightly different, my mouse randomly stops responding for 3-15 seconds but music continues playing fine. Headphones are 808 brand). It possibly occurred less frequently but I also moved MBP from laptop stand to desk, since my external keyboard was now also disconnected.

I'm wondering if there is bad bluetooth channel management causing interference. Guess I'd have to connect headphones to my phone and leave mouse connected to MBP to test that out.

I'm experiencing a problem that seems very related.

To me it seems like there is a problem when using bluetooth headphones and wifi.

I wrote a long breakdown here:

Re: tbMBP 13" bluetooth issue

To isolate the problem:

Have you tried turning off WiFi completely, and then use both Bluetooth mouse and Bluetooth headset at the same time without any problem?

I was having this exact same issue. I have a Macbook Pro (15-inch, 2016) with touch bar. I first noticed that I would lose connection to my mouse when I was using my Bose QC35s. I recently got a new set of AirPods and I was having the same issue. It was driving me crazy. As soon as I paused my music the connection would be reestablished with the mouse.

I finally bumped into this Forbes article (link below) today and it seems like it finally solved my issue. Unfortunately I can't use the handoff feature on my Mac anymore but it's definitely less of a problem than not being able to wear bluetooth headphones and use a bluetooth mouse at the same time (I'm using the Logitech MX Master mouse). I hope Apple jumps on this issue and fixes soon. This was SO annoying. I've been struggling with this issue for MONTHS.

Fix: Basically you just have to go to System Preferences -> General -> Uncheck "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices"

This fixed it for me! Thank you!!

Seems to kind of fix, but still freezes every 10 seconds for a second or two.

Really *****.

Yeah I was too quick with my conclusion... Somehow worked for 10 mins. after that but then it was back to the original situation. Using the unifying receiver for now.

Any updates on this? still having the same issue....

Just wanted to chime in and say that I have the exact same problem. Both the Logitech MX Master and the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic keyboard stop working when i used my QC35s

Could you share which display you have. I'm having the exact same issue, haven't tried without my display connected yet, tho

I have the LG 27UD88-W. Even without the display connected it still happens, also on my 2015 imac at home it happens... it's a shame you can't use 2 great bluetooth devices at the same time...
