Safari 11 will not open

MacBook Pro, 2 GHz Intel Core i5, MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)

my safari 11 will not open. I am currently using Google Chrome, because my Safari will not open. I click on it, and it does nothing. Does not bounce.. nothing. I have deleted caches and done all the steps for safari problems. I was told there were a few other people who are having this problem, but we would have to wait for Apple to release an update for Safari to fix whatever the problem is. is this true?
