Sierra freezes!

Hello there,

I have a Mac mini mid2011, 2,3 i5, 8gb.

I upgrated from El capitan to sierra and after some time i saw this:

The mouse pointer suddently stopped moving. The keyboard was still working, the caps lock light was working.

I launched rowmote pro from my iphone, and the mouse was moving! But when i clicked on something, the pointer became the colorful circle turning. And after some seconds the colorful circle stopped turning (freezed) and the mac mini totaly frozed. Not even the caps lock light could turn on.

Then the only solution was to hard close and restart. Then after 30-40 minutes again the same freeze and again and again...

I did a lot of research, i installed temperature monitor and the cpu temp was less than 65 when it was freezing. I uninstalled a lot of programs etc....But still the freeze.

So i had to clean install sierra, to be sure that there was no problem with the udate.

So i clean installed sierra, and guess what! The same thing happened again! It freezes after some time for no reason!

I have to notice that i own the mac mini for 5 years and changed all the OS, but never happened something like this. It started happening 1 hour after i upgraded to sierra.

Is there  a way to see logs etc, to find what is the reason of the freeze?

If i cant find any solution, i will clean install El capitan, and if it is working perfect (like it did), then for sure it is a sierra major problem...

Hi kavouras5,

I understand that your Mac mini is regularly becoming unresponsive. I know it's important to be able to use your Mac reliably, so I'm happy to help.

It sounds like you've already gotten a great start on troubleshooting with the steps you've performed. Next, let's reset your SMC which can often help with performance issues like this. You can see how to do that here:
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

If you continue to have issues after this, you can use Apple Diagnostics to determine if there is a hardware issue with your Mac. You can see how to do that here:
Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Dear Moonj,

I read some info about compabillity issues of logitech control center and sierra.

So i chenged my logitech mouse and uninstalled logitech control center.

From this time there is no freeze and problem at all.

I will inform if i anything changes.

Fyi the logitech control center i use is version 9.3.5 which is supposed to work ok with sierra. I guess this caused the totally freeze af the mac. In some days i will be more sure about that...

I have the same darn problem, except my MacBook pro (late 2013) freezes for about 20 sec and then comes back. After that every mouse click freezes the system for 15 to 20 sec - I have to restart the machine (from the apple menu) every time - extremely frustrating!!

Any solutions anyone?

The only solution for now is to uninstall logitech control center. If the problem still exists, remove the logitech mouse and use another mouse of another brand.

Hopefully they will fix it with a next update...

I had the same problems. I removed Logitech drivers and the problems didn't occur since. I am still using the same Logitech mouse.

In my case I have a latest mbp and no logitech anything.  For me everything except my mouse freezes.  I can't access anything including activity monitor.  It requires a hard reset.  At times if I have webex audio going, I can still hear audio but nothing else is responsive.

Hi have the same problem. I'm using a logitech mouse, but i do not have any logitech drivers installed. After 30-40 min mouse will freeze the system on every click, the only way left being restarts. i myself did as well all the sierra reinstall.
