Pops and Crackles during playback on Logic Pro X

I've got a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with the following specs:

macOS: Sierra Version 10.12.6

Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Storage Capacity: 251GB (Less than half-full)

I'm running Logic Pro X Version 10.3.2. During playback, I'm getting random pops and crackles. This is happening on various tracks of most of my projects, regardless of the complexity of the arrangement or whether or not I'm using third-party plugins.

For example, my most recent project is in its early stages. So, it has no audio tracks or drummer tracks or external MIDI tracks. There are no "mastering" presets or plugins being used on the output track. The only track on the project is a software track using Logic's "Alchemy" plugin. I've added a few extra plugins (i.e. Pitch Shifter, Pedal Board, and Stereo Spread) to the chain, but all are native to Logic. There are some automation parameters running, but nothing too complex or taxing for the CPU, at least according to the meter. However, I know this is the area in which the problem lies, at least in part, as the pops and crackles go away when the automation is disabled. Naturally, this is an unsatisfactory fix, as I can't produce the desired effect the track requires without that automation.

I've tried everything I can think of, from maximizing the buffer to switching to low latency mode to resetting the input and output devices to shutting everything down and restarting the computer. I've even tried bouncing the track in place, but the pops and crackles show up in the resultant audio file. As I noted above, the unwanted noises are random, so re-bouncing merely presents an audio file with pops and crackles in different positions than previous bounces.

I'm at my wit's end here. I've never had insurmountable issues with Logic in the past, and have used it happily in a professional capacity for years. I currently have several unfinished project with looming deadlines, not to mention a baby on the way. So, my stress level is peaking. I need to resolve this quickly, as a significant portion of my livelihood depends having a reliable, versatile, professional quality DAW.

Any suggestions?
