IOs 11 and Spotify not in control centre

When I play music through the Spotify app I cannot control my music through the control center, I also cannot control it through the lock screen.  when i use my headphone to skip  back forward or pause/play it automatically turns off spotify and plays Apple Music!! I updated my phone to iOS 11 yesterday so I’m guessing the software just isn’t up to date.
