cannot send  aol mail with apple mail

cannot send aol mail thru apple mail, can send with aol site on safari.  incoming mail ok and mail settings are all valid?

Is this related at all to the frequent emails AOL is now sending warning that if we don't upgrade Apple Mail by November, we will no longer be able to use Apple Mail to get our AOL mail? There are no preferences available in Apple Mail that allow individual tweaking of SSL, ports, etc. for AOL accounts.

 

Here's a copy of the email from AOL. It is definitely legitimate, and not a phishing email.

AOL is committed to protecting the privacy and security of our customers. This is why we're writing to inform you that your current third party email application is not using the latest, secure mail connection settings. In order to continue sending and receiving AOL Mail via your application, you must update your connection settings by November 7, 2017.
