Latency on digital

Something that is linked to my last query here that I need help understanding:

If I connect a DAT recorder via a digital audio cable, to the audio interface that has a digital input, but the audio interface is not zero-latency monitoring, therefore, will the signal be affected? In other words, is a connection via a coaxial digital cable between the DAT and the audio interface, dependable on the audio interface if it's zero latency or not?

As long as you are not trying to record live along with it, the latency on the transfer will not be an issue and will not effect the recording quality in any way.
