"require password for additional purchases on t...
Every time i update any iTunes apps on my mac it asks the same question "require password for additional purchases on this computer" and usually asks it 3-4 times, i click require after 15 minutes and then get asked again, click, again, click, again. is there anyway to fix this. i already changed the iTunes setting so that it should not request a password for any free downloads which i think should include updates ?
Doug, same problem here. Started not that long ago; I presume it's a bug in latest iTunes or, perhaps, it's a "feature".
Or, maybe, there's a setting somewhere to stop the nagging!
In fact, I don't believe it should require the password to update purchased software, either-- at least, on the iOS devices we have, updates seem to take place without them, so why not on the Mac, too?
My 10.10.4 system has the same problem. Very frustrating.
Since it's been a month since you posted and you still haven't gotten any help, should we even hope for an answer at this point?
Little hope this will be answered. Same question appears in several forms here, and on other forums, and no one I have seen has even a theory.
Which means it's likely a problem experienced by a minority. It appears to me that each app asks the question once. Eventually, every app in my library will have asked this question and that will be the end of it. But it's just a guess.
Much thx for your quick reply, moe52... even if Apple is asleep at the wheel.
Thank you also for the glimmer of hope that this, too, shall pass.

Looks like I'm in that minority. I've been experiencing this "feature" for somewhere around a month and it's really irritating. Even if I go into iTunes preferences and set the option to "never ask" I still get the question plus it resets the option back to ask after 15 minutes. Seems the app update process really wants that to be the value!
I'm hoping you guys are correct that once an app asks the question it won't do it again but I don't think that's the case. Considering the number of times I've been nagged with this question since this all began, I can't believe that that many unique apps have been updated and that every time the question is asked it's from an app that hasn't been previously updated. I hope I'm wrong.
You folks may be in a minority, but this is obviously a real problem. I'd suggest reporting it to Apple through the feedback page:
https://www.apple.com/feedback/
Good idea. Done, for what it's worth.
I did so as well.
But everyone here should give Apple their feedback, so Apple knows it’s not an isolated problem with just a couple of users.
Here’s part of Apple’s auto-response: “We cannot respond to you personally, but please know that your message has been received and will be reviewed by the iMac Team.”
Thank you, Richard.
.
Seems like an infinite loop for me (unless it just reflects the sheer number of apps being updated). Not something I'd have ever expected to encounter in Apple software a few years ago.
Feedback sent to https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html. That's the OS X iTunes feedback page. So how strange that under 'Which operating system are you running?', the only visible options are for iOS! It took me a moment to realise I had to scroll down to find OS X versions. I'm sure it never used to work like this.
This is feeling more and more like amateur hour in the Apple ecosystem I have to say.
Still happening here! The nagging really needs to end!
Plus, the prompting of "transfer purchases downloaded on this machine" before synching (or whatever the lingo is) needs to end! Why doesn't iTunes just take care of it for us automatically? I mean, under what circumstances, would you not want to transfer them? We wouldn't be synching to a foreign computer--and if it's because there is an issue with another computer--then let us pair or designate home computers as favorites and do the download automatically.
Been having the same problem for a few months now, possibly since iTunes 12 (not sure), now on iTunes 12.3. Very annoying, especially on those days where you've got 40 apps with updates (and it seems like it asks me 40 times, once per app). Have submitted my info to the iTunes feedback page.
This solved it for me.
If iTunes repeatedly prompts you to authorize your computer - Apple Support
Dmesser's link: doing the "Remove SC Folder" section and then reauthorizing iTunes solved my problem with this.
This problem is resolved for me! Unfortunately, I am not sure I can explain why well enough to help anyone else.
I went to the Apple Store Genius Bar a few months ago and demonstrated the problem. They'd never seen it and the more senior genius also hadn't. They suggested uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.
Did that, no luck. We may have also deleted an itunes preferences file (I don't think so, but don't remember for sure). If you want to try that, Google "how to delete itunes preference files."
But lo and behold, a few days later, the problem went away. It just disappeared.
So try it and good luck.
If it fails, I suggest trying removing itunes prefs. After that, the Genius recommendation was to reinstall the OS because they said some itunes prefs and OS pref and settings files are intermingled.
