Need to learn how to reset to factory settings

I need to know how to reset to factory settings but it doesn't have OS X Utilities application.  It's a MacBook Air with Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Please help.

Connect its original thumbdrive or insert a Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD, restart with the Option key held down, erase its internal drive, and install a fresh OS.
