how to transfer from G5 10.6.8 to OS Sierra

I have a 2005 5, iOS 10.6.8.  Just bought the 2017 iOS 10.12.6.  How do I transfer data from old to new?  Read something about a Thunderbolt cable, but the G5 doesn't have a Thunderbolt port.  What to do?  Do I need to buy an extra cable?

The easiest way, is to backup your 10.6.8 machine to an external hard drive using Time Machine. Then use that Time Machine backup while setting up your new machine. see > Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support

 

If you just want to manually move your user data (pic's, doc's, music) files, then you can use an external hard drive, a direct network connection or over your local network.
