Itunes keeps crashing

I have an imac on El Capitan.  A few days ago, I got errors whenever I tried to open it related to permissions.  I did a lot of research online and made "permissions" read and write for itunes, shared file and my music folder.  This didn't fix anything except make the error message go away.  I still am unable to open itunes.  It bounces but does not open.  I have tried this in safe mode, same problem.  I have repaired permissions and done other maintenance through Onyx, same problem. Reset pram, same problem.   What can i do short of a time machine restore which I would prefer not to do.  Some tech savvy Macmetician, help me please!
