I cannot get past this error when attempting to do an Internet Recovery with Option + Command + R

Those minus -2000 series errors generally mean your Wi-Fi is inadequate in some fashion.

Issues include:

Network-name (SSID) is hidden

Using a Manual IP address instead of good old DHCP

Using PPPoE configured in the Mac (configured in the Router is OK)

using certificate-based authentication

requiring a login screen entry

Using a Proxy

requiring the use of Virtual Network Connection to get any response

Router does not supply a DNS Address or supplies 0.0.0.0

I'm having this problem too, and my iMac is not communicating with Apple Store to get fresh OS.

Apparently next step is to attempt bootup from USB stick or CD.

Hi,

IIRC, that means you are not connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Try an Ethernet cable if possible, otherwise make sure your modem/router are working. You can also try Recovery Mode (Command R) instead of Internet Recovery Mode if you choose.

To get around the local WiFi issue, I turned my iPhone into an internet hotspot and thereafter my iMac was able to see it and log into it, but that is as far as I got. The iMac did not fetch recovery software.

That last item, "Router does not produce a valid DNS server address" can still preclude you from downloading anything once you make the connection.

I do believe its my wifi connection, but how do I change the connection now?  It just keeps coming up with the -2006F error and I cant swap Wifi connections.

go somewhere they offer free Wi-Fi without a login-page (just a password) and use their WiFi.

When you get back, make the connection to your Router and fix its issues, such as hidden network-name, lack of DNS addresses, etc.

Reseting NVRAM and SMC did the trick for me! Here are the steps I followed: boot - Unable to enter Recovery Mode -2006F - Ask Different
