My iPad has pink, fushia, purple, and blue wavy ripples and a blurry screen. Nothing has happened to it that I'm aware of. Any ideas of what may be helpful to fix it?
Standard troubleshooting as per the User Guide: Reset it, restore it, restore it as new, take it to Apple.
Try in turn until it is fixed.

I have been attempting to resolve this problem for my friend's iPad 2 32 GB, W-Fi for 3 months. She is 85 years old. She is "new" to Apple. Purchased her iPad 9-15-11 and out of warranty. Her iPad was ALWAYS in a sturdy leather case, never near liquid, alway great care taken with her iPad. Last October, she opened her iPad one morning to find the pink, fuschia, purple, blue "wavy ripples" that looks like an oil spill. The icons are blurry and often the screen goes completely black or very dark, dark blue.
I performed the standard Reset, Backup, Restore, Restore as new, even did a connect to iTunes in Recovery Mode. I did the Download and Update back in November and again today to the latest update, 7.0.4 without resolving the "oil spill" shades of purple, pink and blue look of the display.
This is obviously a problem that has not been officially addressed by any official Apple personell. I called in and have a case number, back in October of 2013. I was basically told that it was too bad this elderly woman didn't know to purchase Apple Care+. I have found quite a few people on the Internet complaining of this problem and seeking a resolution. I've included one other on Apple Support Communities that fits exact. That person has never been given any response at all.
There is no Apple Store within a 4 1/2 hour drive from where we live. To purchase a one time repair, it would be $199, which was way out of the budget for this elderly woman on a fixed income. It was quite a stretch to purchase the iPad to begin with! The Best Buy where she purchased it did have a "warranty" that was "expired" - that would be the one year warranty that comes with the original purchase from Apple! They never offered that Apple Care+ when it was purchased. Apple needs to step up on this problem. These iPads are not "disposable" like the cardboard disposable cameras! Apple has a great name for quality and needs to look into this anomoly.

If a screenshot taken with the device shows normally while the actual LCD (display panel) is displaying the problem, then the problem is very likely with the LCD panel itself (hardware failure). Make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store and take it in for free evaluation. They will let you know what your repair/replacement options are.
Thank your for your response. It is a 4 1/2 hour drive to the closest Apple Genius Bar. That probably will not be able to happen for some time....
I know it sounds a little crazy but 2-3 gentle taps at the side of the case near the power connection with the handle of a screw driver or something like that did the trick, my iPad 2 had the same issue and is back to working order and fully functional. The screen may go back again if dropped, just tap it again near the power connection.
Hey,
I actually tried this crazy tip because I was having the exact same problem as the above user have mentioned and for me the nearest repair shop is about 600km away.
I did tap my ipad gently at the back several times around the power connection area as well as the left corner where the headphone jack is and guess what my screen is back to normal. This is the second time it has happened. It definitly seems to be a problem with the ipad it self.
I hope you will try this tip to get your old lady's ipad back to its normal condition.
All the best.
Regards,
Mahwish
The above trick also worked for us. I am not sure how long it will last but we also do not live near an Apple Store. We did not tap hard, but with the back of a screwdriver we tapped along the back edge of the iPad until we found a spot that fixed it.
You can see my complaint/query about the very same problem you are experiencing. Because the iPad belonged to an elderly woman, I contacted Apple, got to an Apple Senior Advisor that realized that the situation needed an "exception" so, I was given the opportunity to take that iPad to an Apple Store in Atlanta, GA. That is a 4 1/2 hour drive from our home, but we were there for our anniversary so, that worked out. The technician at the Genius Bar tested the iPad, saw that it needed to be replaced and now all is well! The other "fixes" mentioned here are not always a fix for every iPad 2 Wi-Fi with this problem.
I continue to insist that this is definitely an issue that needed to be a recall for those particular models. I would suggest you call and state that you see that many others have reported this issue and it should be resolved via a recall or replacement.
My 2¢....
My iPad screen is now showing purple blocks. It is 17months old. I took it to an Apple store who pressed the top part of it gently. Apparently to get the wire reconnected. They offered my a replacement for $299. Couldn't afford to get a replacement. Got back home and the problem continues. I now have to manipulate the top section from edge to edge to temporarily get rid of the purple blocks. Not happy!
As this is a common issue i think that Apple should either fix it properly or replace free of charge.

OMg i smashed my ipad like for 10minutes and guess what it recovered!thanks alot!
I'm stunned. Mine was doing this also. I was about to buy a replacement when I saw the suggestions here. I tapped around the edge with a screwdriver handle (padded handle). When I tapped near the power input port the screen snapped back to normal. To quote Cousin Eddie "I on't know".
i have b ten trying for a week to fix this problem !! i read your post and it took less then a second . thanks for a great apple fix . your like Fonzi
