What version of iTunes do you have?  It must be version 12.  If you can download the latest version from the Apple Downloads site: Apple - Support - Downloads

First unplug your iPhone.  Next launch iTunes and then plug in your iPhone.  If you get the message about trusting the iPhone click yes.
