Problems with connecting iPod to iTunes 12.7

So I updated iTunes to 12.7.0.166 and I'm just having problems with it

First off, iTunes is having problems even acknowledging my iPod is connected. I plug it into my computer and nothing shows up. I have to keep unplugging and plugging it in, until it finally recognises it.

Second problem is, when iTunes finally does recognise the iPod is connected, I can't transfer songs. They show up on my iPod but they are greyed out. I delete the track from iTunes and add it again, but the same things happens. Even songs I had no problem adding to my iPod a few weeks back.

Am I alone here, what is up with the new iTunes?!
