Location Service for Weather Widget does not wo...

Firstly, big thanks for your time to all of you.

So here is my problem:

About a week ago, I noticed the Weather Widget in my notification centre stopped showing the local weather, but to ask me whether or not to allow it using the location service, as shown in IMG_001.

So as you can see, the location service for weather is unchecked at 9:32 am.

And then I input the password and checked the weather widget, together with the details of location service shown in IMG_002 and IMG_003.

After making the change and click the lock, the notification centre seemed to work properly (IMG_004) at 9:38 am.

From then on, all I did was quitting the system preference and that was it. Nothing else, till I rechecked the notification centre and the location service after one minute or so at 9:39 am. And here is the screenshot IMG_005.

So it is not a big thing but kinda bugs me. I would appreciate it very much if you guys have any advisement or possible cause and solution.

Thanks again.

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

Thanks a lot! It did solve the problem and also grateful for the clear instructions and information provided by both of you (Eric Root and Leonie) since I could not find matched solutions or users that had issues similar enough.

Many thanks again

You are welcome.

A bit of updating, the problem kinda find its way back to my mac after I thought I was freed from it. I did some more research and tried some other methods, and it seems this one worked. It has been two days now and the widget still works till now.

  1. Go to folder  /System/Library/Frameworks/NotificationCenter.framework/
  2. In the folder you should see the file named "NotificationCenter". Drag it to the desk top.
  3. Launch Termial.app and run the following commands. (They are three different commandlines. Input each commondline and click "return" to run then input the next commandline.)

  • cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
  • rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
  • killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter

  4.  Quit Terminal.app and restart your Mac.
