activation lock

I was given a 1st generation ipad mini by my girlfriend's little brother. I was able to reset the ipad however he did not turn off Find my iPhone and now I cannot get around the activation lock. I contacted her little brother but he does not remember the apple ID and password that the ipad is linked to. And they bought it so long ago that they no longer have proof of purchase. I don't know what to do, someone help please!

Tell him to use Apple's iForgot service or contact their Account Security team. If he can't get back into that Apple ID or recover the purchase receipt, that iPad is useless.

You can do nothing.

Oh 1 thing: Give it back. Without the original Apple ID and password, the iPad is useless to you.

You cannot bypass Activation Lock and no one can help except the owner.

He needs to follow the instructions to see if he can remember the email address that he used for his Apple ID on the device. Why would he think it would be different than the Apple ID he is using today?

If he cannot figure out what email address he used for the Apple ID that is signed into the iPad, then you will not be able to do anything since you don't have the original sales receipt.
