Battery Percent Glitch/Low Life

Whenever I try to use my MacBook Pro, it only lasts for a few minutes. Also, when I'm using it it stays at 100% and then suddenly goes down to 4%. Sometimes it even says it's on low power when it's at 100% like in the screenshot.

I figure I have to replace the battery, which is no problem, but I want to know if there is any related software issues I will have to fix. Here is my computer information:

-Version 10.11.6

-MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009)

-2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

-4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

-NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

I also replaced my optical disc drive with a hard drive a while ago and partitioned it for Windows 7 if that has anything to do with this. Reinstalling everything back to normal is not really an option. Thanks!

Try resetting the  SMC https://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
