iPod Shuffle Podcasts

When I saw that Apple had discontinued the iPod Shuffle a few weeks ago, I bought one in case my 2nd Gen Shuffle gives out.  On the old Shuffle I can use drag and drop in iTunes to set the order in which the podcasts will play.  But that doesn't work in the new Shuffle.  How can I control the order of play, or is that no longer possible?

I called Apple, and Customer Service suggested putting the podcasts in a playlist, then reordering the playlist before syncing, but that didn't work, so I thought I'd try here.

Also, on the new Shuffle, when a podcast finishes, it doesn't move on to the next podcast.  Instead it replays the first podcast and I need to use the Voice Over button to get to a different podcast.  I don't know why Apple would want it to work that way, so is it supposed to work that way?

I'm running iTunes 12.7.0.166 on an iMac.  The Shuffle has the latest update.
