ITunes 11.1.2 no longer has a book tab

Just updated to ITunes 11.1.2 and the books tab is no longer there. There is no option in preferences for books only audiobooks. I assume this is related to Mavericks installing IBooks. How do I get my books into Itunes to sync them with my Ipad

same here??? I dont know whats going on, I did the latest update and I can no longer sync new books to my ipad

Man, I accidantally found my books under the music section???!!!!?!?!?!!!1

Hi,

Your iBooks are now managed by the iBook app. All books should have been moved to iBooks.

Jim

So they have. But what a shoddy app. Can´t edit title, cover or metada. Unbelievable!

Jim,

How to you side load/drag and drop books now? I can get them into the iBook App but they will no longer sync with the iPad or iPhone. Was on the phone with Apple Support the other night with no luck. I actually deleted the app and iTunes book tab now appears in iTunes again.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated  I thinks I may use Marvin for my epubs.

Hi,

Have a look at this document https://support.apple.com/kb/HT5826.

Jim,

Thanks, but unless I am not understanding the document, I think it only pertains to books bought from the iBook store. Most of my epubs come from other sources. What it I buy a book from a store like Smashwords? The Apple Care Specialist couldn't get my sideloaded books to sync from device to device. We even restored a prior backup of my iTunes from my external hard drive.

I appreciate any help.

Sue

I too have just updated to Maverick and can not access my epubs anymore except on the Imac itself. There is no means to transfer pubs to the ipad.

I have incredibly important info contained in certain epubs, how do I get them on my ipad???

Why don't you try the Marvin app?

Here is a very odd fix.

Since iTunes no longer shows books, connect your iphone or ipad to itunes

Expand to the area where you have books, make sure you can see all the existing pdf/epub

Now simply drag and drop your epub files on your computer from finder to this area

This will transfer this directly to your phone but will not show up on itunes books window (Under iphone)

Good luck.

PS If you keep the ibooks app open on your iphone you will be able to see the file being transferred.

With the introduction to the new iBooks with Mavericks, Apple did a big change in how to import books.

Not that complicated since you get the know how. Here it goes:

Open iBooks, Click File, select "Add to Library"

Now open iTunes and when selecting your device, iPhone or iPad, select Books, there you should see all PDF and ePub files.

True.

In other words - the "books" tab in iTunes will come back as soon as you add books to ibooks on the mac (I think that only works as long as those books aren't purchased at the iBooks store though)

This will also sync ebooks and PDFs which where on your iPad or iPhone before and wouldn't sync with iTunes.

Instead of using the iBooks menu you can also just drag&drop your ebooks from finder into ibooks on your mac.

I'm having trouble figuring this out.  When I click "Add to Library" it opens up a window for me to find my library which I do but then nothing loads into iTunes.  You know it's a sad day when it's easier to put my books on my nook then it is to put them on my iPhone and iPad.

Hey Matt7sd,

The trick is to load all your books into iBooks on your Mac first (can't tell you how it works in case your are on a PC)

You'll probably find that your books from the iBooks store are already there. Just add the other ones into this library, either by drag&drop or by using the menu. Once added you'll get a "books" tab in iTunes where you can choose to synchronize your books to attached idevices.

Check this discussion, maybe it helps https://discussions.apple.com/message/23673189#23673189
