2016 MacBook Pro trackpad left

I was using the 15in 2016 MacBook Pro at the apple store today, and I encountered a major usability issue when using the trackpad with my left hand.

Due to the size of the pad, often I found other fingers resting on the trackpad when using it (such as my left ring and left pinky finger). The problem is that the trackpad was detecting the left-most finger as the dominant finger. So if my left pinky was resting on the pad, the trackpad would respond to my left pinky finger and NOT to my left index finger. 

This makes perfect sense for right hand usage since the dominant index finger is the left most finger, but it should be reversed for left hand usage. I could not find any setting to change this.

I am left-handed, and while I could use the trackpad with my right hand, using my left hand is my preference. I have the old magic trackpad for my iMac, and I never encountered this issue, likely due to the smaller size of the pad.

Anyone else have this issue?

Whether anyone has the problem it cannot be fixed so the question is really irrelevant. Trackpads don't come in left- or right- handed versions.

Apple has clearly designed the software for right handed usage. This problem is very relevant for left handed users, and it could fixable with software. Maybe there already is a setting that can change this. The multitouch detection is designed to set the left most finger as the dominant finger for pointer potion. This would typically be the right index finger. For lefties, this poses a problem as our right most finger, the left index should be the detected finger for motion.

You must be right. I just tried right-clicking my mouse with my left hand, and the mouse no longer responded. The software must definitely discriminate against left-handed users. I would report this to the government as a serious violation of your rights (or lefts) and the anti-discrimination laws.

Back to the matter at hand, the new trackpad is very wide, and it is natural to rest your 4th and/or 5th digit on the edge of the trackpad. I would ask you to imagine your frustration if the trackpad became unresponsive during routine usage, but it is clear the empathy is not a trait that you possess.

I'm left handed too and I have the same problem. I can use the trackpad as well with both hands and the usage with the right hand is on the 2016 15'' matchbook pro is much better.

I didn't have this with my MacBook Air.

On the MacBook Pro 2016 I must intentionally lift my left hand small finger and ring finger if I want to use the trackpad...

I complained about the same issue this evening. With the words of 'back' and 'reload the page' appearing while reading an article becomes frustrating. Changing the one choice that may accommodate us, second click on the point and click, does not help us to use the same features for left handed people. It could be considered as discrimination toward lefties. You would think that a powerful company, as Apple is, they would be thinking about others around the world who are left handed. I complained to Apple and I hope a south paw reads it first and agrees with our issue.
