Messages on mac will only show contact badges b...

Recently my messages on mac will only display the contact badge of the people I am messaging. If they have a contact photo then it will only display that and if not then it will display the standard initials of their names. I am very confused as to why this happened and I can't find a solution anywhere else. Please help!
