Put backups on external disk

My ipad has 128 gbs my iphone has 64 and 16 respectively. I can't possibly have my backups on my hard disk of only 512 gbs. Is there any way to get iTunes to back up these devices to an external disk?

Apple ***** for not adding this option in iTunes. Should have been an option years ago.

Now you have to follow TuringTest2´s example above and do some hacking with a touch of Windows feeling.
